When we are heading toward a Smart Home with all the gadgets and bandwidth you can think of, why shouldn’t you have a Smart Mini Hospital in your home that will help you cope with things like the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown.

There will be many components to that…

Telemedicine: In the pre-Covid Era, many a times you were not sure of whether to visit a doctor or not and you ended up either going for no reason or too late. Telemedicine does away with that. The moment something goes wrong, it’s better to consult a doctor online without wasting time on commute and waiting endlessly in medical waiting rooms.

Thanks to Covid, now you will find almost every type of doctor online, even a psychiatrist. Thanks to advances in collaboration and the cloud, it is easy to exchange heavy files. You can even call someone home for doing things like blood tests. You can have the entire experience sitting at home. All you need is a good device and bandwidth, something most of middle class India already has by now.

Wearable IoTs: Heart rate. Body temperature. Sleep patterns. Perspiration. Glucose levels (for diabetes patients). Blood oxygen levels (handy during Covid). All this can be monitored using a wearable Internet of Things device. You can track this information in real-time and transmit this information to your family, doctor or hospital. Useful in case of a heart/asthmatic attack. They can sync with IoT devices throughout the house.

Digitize all your documents: Today most printers come in the forms of MFDs, with scanners. Your smartphone is also a scanner. And now there are many options for storing a huge amount of data on the cloud. You should digitize all your medical documents and store them so they can be handy for reference or teleconsultation.

If you can afford them, get health gadgets: Today there are high-tech gadgets that can help you conduct many medical exams at home. These include blood pressure monitors, ECGs, EEGs, gluten testers, humidifiers, air purifiers, breathalyzers to check vital signs and something like even microbiome tests for your gut.

Basically instead of a First Aid Kit, you can keep a medical cupboard ready with all the latest gadgets, masks, visors, PPE kit and the basic medicines. Also, you can locate a spot in the house for quarantine and keep barriers ready to put up. Tomorrow’s Smart Home can also be a medical marvel that takes care of your basic problems. WFH and TFH together will sort out a lot of problems in the no touch social distancing Covid Era.
