The iPhone 15 Pro

The iPhone 15 series, including the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max, will likely be released this year. According to recently leaked information, Apple's next generation of iPhone models will probably have significant hardware enhancements. The iPhone 15 variants are rumoured to have a USB Type-C port and enhanced rear cameras. At the same time, the Pro models, like the iPhone 14, should have a new 3nm CPU, titanium edges, increased zoom capability, and readily repairable internals.

Apple's next iPhone 15 Pro to lose its immediately recognisable stainless-steel edges and other expected Changes

  • In the newest issue of his weekly Power On newsletter, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports that Apple's next iPhone 15 Pro will lose its immediately recognisable stainless steel edges in favour of a more complex material - titanium. The company's forthcoming Pro models will be more robust than previous generations. Meanwhile, he says the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, like last year's iPhone 14, will have updated internals to make them easier to fix.
  • The iPhone 15 Pro will be powered by a new 3nm technology that will boost performance over last year's Pro models, according to Gurman, who claims the new CPU is "noticeably snappier." On the other hand, customers who purchase the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will reportedly receive the 4nm A16 Bionic chip featured in the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

  • According to Gurman, Apple will use "low-injection pressure over-moulding" to shrink the size of the bezels around its iPhone 15 Pro series of handsets to 1.5mm this year, down from 2.2mm on the 14 Pro models. Meanwhile, the notch will be removed from the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus in favour of the Dynamic Island found on last year's Pro models.

Camera of the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus and iPhone 15 Pro Max

Previous sources indicate that the next iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus would have a 48-megapixel primary camera rather than the 12-megapixel one used on the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus, and Gurman claims that the most significant model — the iPhone 15 Pro Max — will have better optical zoom. Apple's next-generation iPhone 15 Pro Max is expected to include a periscope camera, a feature found on high-end Android devices.

Gurman also confirms that the iPhone 15 series will ditch the now-outdated — and slower — Lightning connector instead of a USB Type-C interface. Apple is likely to implement this hardware update to comply with EU regulations that take effect in December 2024.

Handset's durability: iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus and iPhone 15 Pro Max

Meanwhile, Apple's Project Bongo plans to improve the handset's durability by including solid-state buttons for the volume buttons, power button, and mute switch have been scrapped, according to Gurman, who claims that only the mute switch will be replaced by an Action button.

Conclusion

According to Gurman, Apple will not release a new Apple Watch SE model this year. Still, the future Watch Series 9 models and the second-generation Apple Watch Ultra will be outfitted with a new — and powerful — S9 chip. Later this year, Apple is likely to disclose plans for a new smartphone and wearable models.
