Has the console in the PS5 gone through significant updates?

There has yet to be any news on whether the PS5 will get the same treatment as the previous Sony consoles, all of which have gotten updates with unique Slim models at some point during their respective lifespan. In particular, the console has already undergone a minor update with a much smaller heatsink. Still, Sony has been silent about any more important upgrades, and sources say this may change in the next year.

Can we expect significant changes in the upcoming PS5?

While the latest PS5 model upgrade and its lack of appreciable improvements and innovation may have disappointed some, leaker Tom Henderson asserts that Sony has huge things in store for 2023 and the following CES. Henderson declares that many sources have handled test kits for a brand-new PS5 with a removable disc drive. These sources claim that the console "functions wonderfully" and that a formal announcement will happen shortly. In a post via Insider Gaming, Henderson says that the disc drive will be an additional purchase option and attach to the console using a USB-C connector "without seeming external."

Will the PS5 be smaller and lighter?

While there needs to be official information about the slim/customizable PS5 model, Henderson's claims need to be put in the right place. By concentrating on a single upgradable gadget, Sony might increase production efficiency while making the entry-level model lighter and smaller. However, depending on whether Sony has implemented significant redesigns to accommodate these reported modifications, those who have invested in customised PlayStation 5 faceplates may discover that they cannot use them.

Conclusion

It's best to take this information with a grain of salt because the PS5's presence with a removable disc drive is still unofficially uncorroborated. The good news is that the hardware should be completely compatible with the current PS5 generation if exposed, as Henderson said it would. However, as the PS VR2 is not backward compatible, the same cannot be said of Sony's VR initiatives.
