Ruby is a dynamic programming language that offers an ideal development environment for Agile practitioners. It has one of the most active open source communities worldwide which produces and supports tools and projects like “Ruby on Rails” - a powerful web application development framework that works well on different platforms, and significantly reduces time-to-market and operating costs.

Explaining the motivation behind hosting RubyConf India for the second time, Ajey Gore, Head of Technology at ThoughtWorks India said, “ThoughtWorks has always been a strong supporter of emerging technologies that carry the potential to revolutionise the software industry. Ruby is one such technology. We have a very vibrant, flourishing Ruby community in India. One of the biggest benefits of organising this event is that we enable Ruby enthusiasts from around India - and even across the globe - to come together, network, share ideas and learn from each other.”

ThoughtWorks has consistently participated in Ruby conferences and other related events across the globe. This year, ThoughtWorks is the Platinum and Technology Sponsor and main organiser of this event, and is supported by Ruby Central — an international non-profit dedicated to the advocacy of the Ruby programming language across the globe. RubyConf India 2011 is co-sponsored by Castle Rock Research Corporation, Heurion, C42 Engineering, Heroku, Multunus and Allerin Consulting, and PCQuest is the official media partner for the event.

Last year, RubyConf India had over 400 attendees from 29 cities across the globe representing 119 companies, mostly startups. Delegates flew in from London, Melbourne, Los Angeles, Singapore & other cities to attend this 2-day, dual-track event which featured 25 speakers, many of them influential leaders in the international Ruby community. This year, in an effort to encourage more people from other cities to attend RubyConf, ThoughtWorks has secured reasonably priced accommodation for out-of-town attendees who need a place to stay. They are also providing free accommodation to women attendees from outside Bangalore who require it.
