Threads by Meta

Threads by Meta users will soon be able to delete their accounts without affecting their Instagram accounts. At a recent event, a Meta official stated that the business is working on releasing a distinct delete option for Threads, which could be available by December of this year. Meta established threads in July this year as a competitor to Elon Musk's microblogging network, X (previously Twitter). It quickly became popular, with over 10 million individuals registering for the app within the first few hours of its release.

Disadvantages of Meta-owned Threads

One of the most significant disadvantages of Meta-owned Threads was the account deletion policy. Threads were strongly connected with Instagram, meaning deleting a Threads account also required the user to cancel their Instagram account. However, the corporation is finally addressing this issue.

According to a TechCrunch story, Meta's Chief Privacy Officer (Product) Michel Protti recently announced at TechCrunch Disrupt that the business is working on launching a tool that will allow customers to deactivate their Threads account separately from their Instagram account. This week, the feature is expected to be available by December.

The functionality would be limited to Android or iOS apps

While he did not say whether the functionality would be limited to Android or iOS apps or if it would be expanded to the desktop version, he did say that creating this feature would be incredibly difficult. Users can cancel their Threads account and conceal the content for now, with no impact on Instagram. Users can also mute their Threads account to avoid receiving notifications.

He also stated that the company is working on integrating Threads with the fediverse, a network of interconnected autonomous servers built to speak with one another. This isn't surprising, given that the firm has previously said that Threads would be compatible with the ActivityPub protocol. However, Meta is assessing the circumstance in which a user deletes a Threads post after being transferred to another server.
