Earlier in May, Nest and Google Home collaborated and formed Google Nest to create a more advanced and helpful home. Now Nest users can migrate their account to Google which will allow for a secure sign-in process and improved integration with Google Assistant.
But, lets first understand what are the benefits associated in migrating to a Google Account. Users will get automatic security protections including suspicious activity detection, two-step verification and security checkup. If you have a Google Nest devices, they can work together. For instance, if you have a Nest Cam and a Chromecast, simply say, ‘Hey Google, show me the backyard camera’ which will stream your back-yard camera to your TV without any additional setup.
Other benefits include, one account to sign into both the Nest and Google Home apps and your homes and home members will be aligned across the Nest and Google Home apps.
Here is how to migrate.
For migration, you will receive an email invitation from Nest, however, if you don’t want to wait on email and would like to migrate now, you can select the ‘Sign in with Google’ option from the most recent version of the Nest app.
And, if you are already using a Google Account, you can sign-in into Google Home with that and then just select that account when migrating your Nest Account. If you don't have an existing Google account, it’s easy to create one. And if you’re a first-time Nest user, you can use your existing Google Account to sign in.
Google has also worked with Amazon for an updated Nest skill, which will work with Google Accounts, so if you want to enable the Alexa integration with your Nest Thermostat or Nest Cam, you can click here to activate the updated skill.
On the other hand, if you’re using Works with Nest with other partners, Google recommends waiting to migrate your account until you receive an email invitation. As if you plan to migrate before receiving your email, your Works with Nest integrations will no longer work and you won’t be able to get them back.
