Responses: Mr Ashish Pathak, Sr. Product Manager at now.gg

Can you provide an overview of Now.gg's journey and its role in the cloud gaming industry?

now.gg is just over a year old and has already become the most significant open gaming platform powered by cloud. Our success is driven by adoption from both gamers and game developers. Gamers have been looking for easy access to their favourite games without device restrictions. Game developers wanted an open platform that could provide freedom of store independent payment solutions. At now.gg we offer both and a lot more.

How do you see the landscape of cloud gaming evolving in the coming years, and what role do you anticipate Now.gg playing in that evolution?

Consumers have moved away from traditional ways to store and interact with content. For example, no one stores music on mobiles anymore. Everyone just streams. In the same way, we believe that gaming would be streamed on all devices. Video streaming is so natural now that we find videos embedded in blogs, articles and news. We believe in the same way games would be embedded in content & social media across the globe. Now.gg has the tech to make all this possible.

Data security is a significant concern in the cloud gaming era. Could you elaborate on the measures and technologies Now.gg employs to ensure the security and privacy of users gaming data?

Cloud gaming makes user data much more secure while playing on now.gg since all the game files are on our servers, they cannot be tampered with, cloud is like an isolated, safe, accessible only by the users with the key.

What challenges has Now.gg faced in establishing itself in the cloud gaming market, and how has the company overcome them?

Historically, cloud gaming was considered expensive as the cloud cost was too high. However, by using AI, we have managed to estimate the peak usage and control the cost.

Cloud gaming requires robust infrastructure and low-latency networks. How does Now.gg ensure a seamless gaming experience for users, even in regions with less developed internet infrastructure?

Now.gg cloud infra is spread out in a way that allows us to be near the users, plus an intelligent server allocation system ensures that users are always allocated servers on the edge nearest to them. This ensures our gamers have the best possible experience.gg.

With the rise of cloud gaming, what opportunities and challenges do you foresee for game developers and publishers, and how can Now.gg assist them in adapting to this new era?

Cloud gaming offers game developers many opportunities, starting with creating more efficient distribution for game publishers. Games published on cloud can be accessed instantaneously rather than the traditional method of long waiting hours for the game to be downloaded. Not only this, but all your game updates do not need to happen on individual devices; the publisher is just required to update their game on the cloud, and it's done. In terms of challenges, I think it is primarily an issue of acceptance; we saw the same problem with accepting the digital distribution of games. Major publishers were initially appalled by the idea of distributing their games digitally. Then it was with free-to-play games; it was challenging to put all the money into developing a game and then distribute it for free; we are now witnessing more and more publishers opening up to the idea of cloud publishing, and soon we will have the majority of games being just published on the cloud.

What steps has Now.gg taken to address concerns about accessibility and affordability, ensuring that cloud gaming is accessible to a wide range of gamers, including those in emerging markets?

Now that GG has increased the overall market size of the gaming industry, cloud gaming, just by its nature, is for everyone; I remember not being able to play the latest games on my system because I did not have the best GPU and required RAM, all these are now the problems of the past. One does not need to spend a bomb to be able to play their favourite game now.gg.

Can you share insights into the technological innovations and partnerships that have allowed Now.gg to provide high-quality cloud gaming experiences?

One of the biggest challenges we have solved is peak time load management and cost optimization during off-peak hours. Gamers in different geos are active during certain hours, and our AI models can predict demand in each region accurately and ensure enough servers are always available.

Data privacy regulations are becoming increasingly stringent. How does Now.gg navigate the complex regulatory landscape to ensure compliance and build user trust?

We ensure that all the laws of the land we operate in are followed all the time. Our support team is doing a phenomenal job of being in constant touch with users and solving their problems in real time. They have helped us win our users' trust.

As the current role as Senior Product Manager of Now.gg, what excites you most about the future of cloud gaming, and how do you envision your company's role in shaping that future?

I think cloud gaming will change how the gaming industry operates. We are looking at how the change unfolds in real time. A lot has changed since we started. Cloud gaming is driving a shift in user behaviour, how data centres are built and operated and how games are published and distributed. Traditionally, publishers have been limited by the device capabilities while designing the specs of their games. All these limitations are now removed, and we will see games that require 100s of GB of storage being published on cloud.

Conclusion
