But here things get interesting as the upcoming Amazon wearable device would not only track your physical health stats but would also recognise human emotions.

Both the Lab126 and Alexa voice software team are working together under the project codenamed Dylan to develop this wearable device. The Amazon wearable device will be launched later this year. Lab126 is also behind the hardware development group that developed Amazon’s Fire phone and Echo smart speaker.

According to the information in the documents obtained by Bloomberg, the wearable device would be worn in wrist and is designed to work with a smartphone app. It has microphones that are connected to the internal software which will let the device discover the emotional state of a user based on the how high/low the pitch or sound of a user voice.

The technology used in the Amazon wearable device is also tuned in a way to advise the user how to interact more effectively with other persons.

Dylan project is somewhat similar to a patent Amazon filed in 2017 for developing a system where an advanced voice recognition software is used to analyse the vocal patterns to conclude how a user is feeling and can differentiate between ‘joy, anger, sorrow, sadness, fear, disgust, boredom, stress, or other emotional states.’

The patent description further hinted at the possibility of Amazon using the information of user’s emotions, analysing them and then recommending products or to conclude responses. The patent was also accompanied by a sketch outlining that the technology can also detect an abnormal emotional condition. In the sketch, a woman is picturised telling Alexa that she is hungry and also coughs in between. Alexa with the tone of her voice recognises that she has a cold, and asks the woman if she would like a recipe for chicken soup. This patent is expected to be integrated in the upcoming Amazon wearable device.

Currently, this whole project looks in the pilot stage and there is not official statement whether it will see the light of the day.
