Windows Server 2008 Is On Top Finally in Server/Network Category

Linux manages to trail Windows in both user segments surveyed. Windows 2008 Server overtakes its predecessor securing the top position.

The server OS category is dominated by Microsoft with Windows 2008 Server taking over its predecessor in both survey segments while Windows 2003 Server trails by a wide margin in terms of top of mind recall and brand ownership. Linux manages to retain its position at three which it booked last year toppling Windows NT. This shows Linux's use across enterprises is jumping. Interestingly, 10% of Windows 2003 Server users plan to shift out to its later version while five percent of Linux users plan to move out to the Windows 2008 Server.

Quality of product is the major factor of satisfaction for users of Windows 2008 Server followed by brand name. However, for users of Windows 2003 Server, brand name and value for money is also important apart from quality of product. Linux gets highest number of votes in favor of quality of product and brand name. For users of Windows 2008 Server, the same factor would be critical for future purchase. Linux users would like to continue using the same brand keeping in mind quality of product and brand name.

For obvious reason, roughly 10% Windows 2003 users are likely switch over to its later version, across both segments. Only a meagre 2% users of Windows 2008 Server might shift out but are not sure of the brand to move out to.

Five percent of Linux users would like to make a jump to Windows 2008 Server in large enterprise category while the OS enjoys 100% loyalty in the 100-499 employees segment.
