According to Chief Executive John Riccitiello of Unity Software, the maker of the Eponymous video game production environment, the company wants to create a market for generative artificial intelligence (AI) softwares.

Since OpenAI released ChatGPT in November, a chatbot that provides remarkably human-like responses to user inquiries and can even produce original computer code upon request, generative AI has gained a lot of attention. In order to take advantage of what is viewed as a game-changing technology, major software companies have since announced a flurry of generative AI initiatives.

Riccitiello went on to say that creating an open marketplace will make it easier for game developers who frequently spend a lot of money making assets like characters and sound effects to go to Unity's marketplace, choose an AI product like an artwork generator, and use it right away to make content.

A teaser video released by Unity also demonstrated that this kind of software could enable game designers to type phrases like "make them flying alien mushrooms" or "add two seconds of thunder" and have the video game's assets or code automatically generated, saving them from having to start from scratch.

Riccitiello stated that generative AI could enable video games to provide personalized scenarios based on player input, but he did not specify when the marketplace would open.

Riccitiello stated in an interview on Tuesday, "The dialogue was written by someone in every video game in history." Now, however, you can use (generative AI) to give these characters goals, motivation, and personality, and then they can erupt into dialogue without the need for a writer."

In the meantime, Unity started a program for developers to get early access to the future AI offerings of the San Francisco-based company. The image creators DALL-E and Stable Diffusion are examples of generational AI software that has been available for some time. On the other hand, more recent offerings include software that generates content for video games and videos using text prompts.
