Visionaire’s Smart Board

What’s a regular presentation at your company like? Chances are that you have a PowerPoint presentation projected on a screen, while a whiteboard at the side is used for scribbling ideas and points of discussion. Imagine that you can scribble on the displayed slide instead of a whiteboard alongside as you normally would have to do. Now, if the scribbling gets saved as part of your file you don’t have to rework on your slides later. The Smart Board from Visionaire lets you do this. This product is for the corporate and education sectors and commercial establishments.

The Smart Board is available in different models–these can be used as a front projection, rear projection, in-wall rear projection, and interactive overlay for plasma. We looked at the front projection Smart Boards, the SB 580 and SB 560.

These are made up of two resistive sheets that are separated by an air-gap.

The changes you make on the board, get saved as a part of the file

The maximum touch resolution of the board is 2000x2000 dpi and supports projector resolutions up to 1600x1200 dpi. The diagonal size of the SB 560 is 60”, while that of the SB 580 is 72”. You have to connect the board to a computer (using the serial or the USB port) and a projector. The board then takes on the operation of a mouse that can be activated by touching the surface with pens that sit on the Smart Pen tray. The tray is attached to the board. The pens use black, blue, red and green virtual ink. While making presentations, you can write on the board and the built-in handwriting recognition software converts it to text.

For this the board comes with a software called Smart Notebook. Install it on your PC or laptop. Using this, you can touch, write and save from the board. It also has an online keyboard to help you enter text. The Smart Notebook is compatible with Microsoft Office applications like Word, PowerPoint and Excel. This means that you can perform all their operations on the board itself. The changes you make get saved in the program.

The board can be installed on Windows 95/ 98/ 2000/ Me/ NT 4 with the help of SB driver 6.0.1.

The board can be mounted on a floor stand that comes with the board. Smart Board SB 580 (72”) is priced at Rs 178,000.
