Mehboob Studio in Mumbai is the cradle to eminent stars of Bollywood cinema, a landmark of iconic cinematography and audio. This is where Vivo shattered clichés by launching its flagship of the year, the Vivo V5. Strapped with #PerfectSelfie, the Vivo V5 serves on plate an astounding 20MP selfie camera for your raging appetite of selfies, priced competitively at Rs. 17,890.
It’s all about that Camera:
The V5 is a “purely camera-centric” smartphone and its biggest highlight is the 20MP front-facing camera, dubbed excellent for low-light photography by Vivo. The Vivo V5 uses a Sony IMX 376 sensor with Moonlight Glow selfie flash, which strikes a balance between under- and overexposed pictures captured without and with flash, thus creating an amply-lit selfie. This is complemented by a beatification mode dubbed the Face beauty 6.0, which adjusts metrics of exposure and saturation to render closer-to-natural skin tones and textures. The 13-megapixel rear shooter which comes with Phase Detection Auto Focus (PDAF) receives remnant attention.
Standard Convenience:
The V5 from Vivo bears a HD (720x1280) 5.5-inch screen protected by 2.5D Curved Gorilla Glass. The resolution is below most phones in this price segment. It runs Vivo’s proprietary FunTouch OS 2.6 running atop Android Marshmallow 6.0 taking juice from a 3000 mAH battery. The new fingerprint scanner is claimed to be faster and more efficient by Vivo, besides being waterproof. The FunTouch OS comes with accessibility features like SmartSplit split-screen feature for ease of multi-tasking and an Eye Protection Mode for convenient night consumption.
The Mainstream Inside:
Inside, the Vivo V5 Perfect Selfie phone is powered by a MediaTek MT6750 processor with eight cores clocked at 1.5 GHz coupled with a Mali-T 860 GPU. Multi-tasking is breezy with 4GB of RAM while V5 offers 32GB of internal storage. Vivo has furthered the fidelity of Hi-Fi music by using an AK4375 chipset for rendering rich audio. The V5 supports LTE.
A Competition of Selfies:
At the price of 17,890, the Vivo V5 puts an ambitious game against existing selfie-centric phones like Gionee S6s and Oppo F1s. We will, however, have a firmer opinion about the real performance of the 20MP camera once we get a hold of it. India will be the first market where the Vivo V5 will be launched, available for pre-order from 16-25th Nov. Vivo V5 will be launched in Crown Gold and Space Gray colours.
Vivo also teased launch of Vivo V5 Plus as the world’s first smartphone with a dual front-facing camera, while the launch date was not revealed.
