And now food apps become the easiest way to bring foods on the table. Food apps are probably one of the most important apps any foodie can have on their phones. It all started when customers were facing difficulties in finding fine restaurants in nearby locations. This problem was first analyzed by zomato which turned into biggest giant in this industry. After that many big startups came into existence like foodpanda, swiggy etc. Food Tech is very wide and food delivery is just part of this, these food startups are creating everyday solutions for users. Here are some awesome apps that I truly believe every foodie must have on their phone.

Zomato

ZOMATO

Zomato is the one who has first analyzed the need of people and further turned into biggest giant in the food tech industry. After that many big startups came into existence. Founded in 2008 by Deepinder Goyal and Pankaj Chaddah the company is currently operating in 23 countries, including India, Australia, and United States. It provides information and reviews on restaurants, including images of menus where the restaurant does not have its own website. The service began as “Foodiebay” In November 2010, which was renamed as Zomato. By 2011, Zomato launched in Bengaluru, Pune, Chennai, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad and introduced smartphone applications. Zomato has over a million dining options in a countless list of global locations, including your own city in India. It has been aggressively working to reach the threshold level needed to monetize each of its operations.

Headquartered in Berlin, Food Panda is operating in 43 countries and territories. It helps users to select from local restaurants and place orders via its mobile applications as well as its websites. The company has partnered with over 40,000 restaurants. Saurabh Kochhar Co-founder & CEO, Foodpanda shared, ‘We have 25 technology models from the entire food panda platform. In our technology platform we have 3 applications like IOS, windows and android apps. Then we have our website also by which user can use to do order online. ‘We have partnership with restaurants who take our orders. Foodpanda processes and sends orders directly to partner restaurants, which then deliver to their customers’ kochhar added further. The service is available via its websites and mobile applications.Customers order food by entering their postcodes on the site and browsing for food from a list of restaurants. They can create meals by browsing restaurant menus and selecting items they want to order before entering an address and proceeding to the checkout. Restaurants receive these orders and then deliver to customers. Food panda sends out an SMS to confirm orders and their estimated delivery time.

The company was inspired by the thought serving food ordering and delivery solution from the best nearby restaurants to the food lovers. Swiggy has recently launched its revamped app that enables faster and easier discovery of food and restaurants, and a seamless ordering and tracking experience. According to the company, restaurant details on the app will load 30 percent faster than before. Aided by machine learning, the app personalizes the list of restaurants that users can view, based on their past orders, searches, and interactions with the app. This reduces the time to arrive at the choice of restaurants and dishes by half. “We observed their ordering patterns over the years and realized that every user has a unique food ordering journey. Some are undecided on what they want, and explore their options on the app; others come in with a specific craving, like “I’m in the mood for some Chinese food”; and then there are some who know exactly what they want to order. We have re-engineered the app, making it more intuitive and personalized,” said Anuj Rathi, VP – Products, Swiggy.

UberEats

The UberEATS app is a standalone app, i.e.it is separate from the ride-hailing app. It allows consumers to schedule orders, curate restaurants, personalise taste preferences and dietary restrictions. Worldwide, UberEATS has a delivery time of 35 minutes. In his interaction Bhavik Rathod, Head of UberEATS India, said, ‘Our goal is to offer people what they want to eat, when they want to eat, in the quickest time possible. The ease and reliability of Uber’s technology is making this a reality.’ ‘UberEATS has received an overwhelming response from Mumbaikars and we recently expanded operations to serve entire city. As a step further in our global expansion strategy, we aim to open up the diverse range of culinary experiences and cuisines to Delhiites at the push of a button.’ also added that Uber will charge a commission from the restaurants for food delivery. However, most likely it will be as per a predefined margin specified in the contract between Uber and the restaurant. He refused to share the average percentage of margin. The company charges INR 15 for delivery. However, in Delhi, as per the order receipt available on the app, the company is charging INR 25 as delivery charge. For payments UberEATS has partnered with mobile-wallet Paytm.

We believe that in a open source technology we would be able to give better solution to our customers experience in the food industry.
