Wipro approached this project internally — called Flexdelivery — with the aim
of overcoming dependency of dedicated support analyst for every skill/track,
since in the traditional model, typical managed service engagements are known to
be 10% idle.
The Flexdelivery model was formulated to virtualize service delivery in
complete sense. Virtualization of services includes options of remote working,
promoting working from home concept thereby making variable employment a
possibility. The concept of Flexdelivery goes a step further and claims to be
scalable for equally efficient performance in the Tier two cities.
The biggest challenge according to Wipro was more along moral grounds -
acceptance of the solution from customers. Wipro also claims that acceptance of
solution from Business and investment was an equally big challenge.
On the technical front, the solution was spread across the domains such as
Server / Network and Security as the solution involved server and desktop
virtualization, Virtual trunking and Firewall implementation.
The hardware used for the project consists of 9 Blade Servers with 32GB RAM
and 5TB of Storage for Virtual Desktops, VCB and VDM Servers with 4GB RAM for
Backup and Connection Broker respectively, Firewall and VTP Switch/Server and
software stack of VMware ESX Server, Virtual Center, Virtual Consolidated
Backup, Virtual Desktop Manager, Windows Directory Server and VDI Licenses.
