New Update

Wipro has launched two network printers– Laser 1700 and Laser 1900–for small workgroups.

Both can print at a maximum resolution of 1200x600 dpi at a rated speed of 12 ppm. The printers have a memory of 4 MB expandable to 36 MB. The USB and the parallel ports of one printer can be connected to two different computers at the same time.

This way they can print simultaneously without having a LAN connection.

The printer driver has many useful features. The multi-page printing lets the user print multiple pages on a single sheet and vice-versa. The pages that can be printed on a single sheet are 2, 4, 9, 16, or even 25. Any document can be enlarged to 2-to-5 times its original size–these can be used for blow-ups, banners, and posters. The software has an option to save 25 to 50 percent of the toner when printing. You can also insert watermarks, choose their position, and angle for placement. The page protection feature creates an image of the print in the memory before printing it on the page. The Diagnostics feature helps you monitor the toner and drum usage.

The printers come with a paper tray with a maximum capacity of 250 sheets. An optional 250 sheets paper tray that costs Rs 9,000 is also available. This can be helpful if you use different media to print on often. For instance, you could feed plain sheets in one tray and letterheads in the other. While giving the print command, you can choose the tray.

The printers also come with a single-feed straight-paper path where you can feed in non-standard media such as transparencies, envelopes or thicker media. This ensures that the sheet doesn’t have to roll inside the printer.

The life of the toner cartridge is about 4,000 pages with 5 percent coverage and the drum unit has a life expectancy of 10,000 pages. Four LEDs that indicate the status of the printer and a button that enables several functions form the control panel of the printers.

Now let’s look at the differences between the two printers. The 1900 version comes with a built-in 10/100 Base TX network card, which is optional in the 1700. This card will cost you about Rs 17,000. The 1900 also has PostScript level 2 Emulation that lets most DTP fonts and languages to be understood by the printer. The 1700 is priced at Rs 38,000 + taxes, and the 1900 at Rs 52,000 + taxes.

Installing the printers is very easy. There’s an interactive video that helps you with the installation as well as to troubleshoot any

problems. The printers come with a 30-day money back offer.
