2000–in the newly released Microsoft Office 2000 SAE (South Asia Edition)–now
has support for Indic languages. However, this support is available only if
it’s installed on Windows 2000. Since Windows 2000 supports Devnagari
(Hindi, Marathi, Nepali, Sanskrit, Konkani) and Tamil scripts, Word 2000
also supports only these Indic languages. As and when Windows 2000 extends
support for other languages, Word 2000 will automatically support these
languages.
Word in Hindi has a number of
good features.
You must be familiar with the
auto-correct feature of Word–the one that automatically makes your "frmo"
into "from" and your "whihc" into "which".
Well, the Hindi version too has a list of most frequently misspelled words
that can be auto-corrected.
HTML support
You can now
convert your DOC files into HTML without losing the formatting. This version
has added support to display Hindi in HTML. For this, your browser should be
IE 5 and above.
Number formats
We use numbering to make a
list of things, for page numbers, footnotes, etc. Now this numbering can be
done using Hindi numbers, vowel or consonant-based ordering, or by writing
the number in Hindi.

This edition
of Word 2000 supports Saka calendar as well as the Gregorian calendar in
Hindi and English. The support for Saka calendar is available even in
English, provided the Hindi language has been enabled. You can choose a
calendar as per your choice.
