WWDC'21: Looking Beyond iOS 15 Features on iPhone

Apple concluded WWDC'21 with a number of announcements, and one of the major announcements out of the lot was about iOS 15. However, the event had a number of other announcements for other platforms like Max and the iPad.

macOS Monterey

The macOS has been made more smooth and fluid to use with the new update. The features from iOS 15 like the improvements and additions to FaceTime and SharePlay extend to macOS Monterey. The "shared with you" option is a one-stop destination for all photos and media that has been sent to you on Mac.

Universal Control

Universal control allows users to function across all Apple devices. It is now possible to control your iPad, MacBook and iMac together. You can do it either with the help of the trackpad on MacBook or the keyboard and mouse on iMac. Your devices need to be close to each other. If you're commanding with your MacBook, then the command will be automatically registered by the other devices. This allows you to drag and drop images and media files from one device to another without any hassle.

Safari

Browser is one of the most-used apps on any device. The Safari browser has been made less cluttered. All the functions have been incorporated in the toolbar itself. This gives it a cleaner look. Tabs have been made more compact, modern and lightweight. There is a new way to use tabs as well, Tab Groups. This allows you to easily save and manage your tabs in certain categories like Work, Travel, etc. This also helps in uncluttering your tab bar. The browser has also been made more space-efficient. On switching tabs, the tab bar takes the colour of the tab you might be using. Tab Groups allow you to save your tabs and pick them back up later. The Tab Groups can be accessed in the redesigned sidebar.

AirPods Pro

AirPods also get multiple additional features and software redesigns at the WWDC'21.

Conversation Boost

This feature can help people with mild hearing challenges be an active part of the conversation. With the help of computational audio and beamforming microphone, conversation boost focuses the AirPods Pro on the person talking in front of you, making it easier to be a part of a face to face conversation. In order to improve the quality of sound of the conversation, you can also reduce the amount of ambient noise.

"Find My" on AirPods

You can locate your AirPods Pro and AirPods Max using "Find My" network. The earphones will send out a Bluetooth beacon that can be identified by other Apple devices. Taking the location of your AirPods to your device using "Find My" The new proximity feature on the app lets you know when you are getting close. Reducing the chances of losing your AirPods even further, you can now turn on a reminder of you losing your AirPods behind.

iPadOS 15

Widgets

Widgets see a major change with iPadOS 15. Now users can place widgets right on the home screen with the apps. Since there is more screen real estate on the iPad, widgets have been designed accordingly. For Apple TV, one can go right into the last watching show from the widget.

Multitasking Redefined

Multitasking on iPad has been redefined with the new update. Users can now bring anything to the middle of the screen while multitasking. The tabs can also be minimized to come back later. This saves a lot of processing power and allows for a smoother experience. The new feature called "Shelf" allows users to keep a track of all the opened apps. The shelf moves even when you open a new app. The shelf is always at the bottom of the screen. The split-screen functionality has also been improved. Users can now drag one app over the other to use in split-screen.
