If you can just go back to our last issue (page no. 144 ) we have reviewed a
very similar graphics card namely XFX GeForce 7600 GT Fatal1ty. There is nothing
much to choose between the two in terms of specs. Both come factory over-clocked
and have identical cores and memory clock speeds. The only difference is the
type of cooling solution used by both. While Fatal1ty boasts of passive cooling
solution and has done away with the need of a fan, this one uses a Zalman fan
instead.
So, even though the card is not as quite as the Falat1ty, it still provides
sufficient cooling to the over-clocked card.
On the performance front there is a distinct difference between this card and
Falat1ty. It scored just 4180 in 3D Mark06, which is about 613 less than what we
got from Fatal1ty. In some of the gaming tests like FEAR it performed at par
with Fatal1ty, scoring just about 10 FPS lower than Falat1ty at default setting.
But in PREY it couldn't really beat the scores of Fatal1ty scoring 43.9 FPS at
maximum setting, around 25 FPS lower than Fatal1ty. It some how made up for its
performance in Doom 3 and gave a decent score of around 140.8 FPS with default
setting.
This card is Vista ready, but won't support DirectX 10 Games. Nonetheless it
supports all DirectX 9.c games and is cheaper than Fatal1ty and performed almost
at par.
Bottom Line: For budget conscious people, who want a card for less
than 10K, it's a good option.
