Meanwhile, Xiaomi Corp. announced better-than-expected profits in the smartphone market due to austerity measures and a focus on more expensive mobile devices. The company's net profit doubled to 3.67 billion yuan in the three months ended June, according to a report published by Bloomberg News.

However, the average estimate for Xiaomi's net profit was 3.16 billion yuan. Net sales fell less than expected by 4 percent to 67.4 billion yuan, paring the decline from previous quarters when the smartphone market was at its worst, according to the report.

The Beijing-based smartphone company has been spending on cuts that have helped stabilize the bottom line during China's faltering economic recovery. The domestic mobile phone market is now showing signs of bottoming out, reports Bloomberg.
