5 Free multiplayer games

These are tough and trying times. The world is going through a pandemic like it has never seen before and the only way to control it is through social distancing and self-quarantining. And staying at home for weeks to save the world is a tough job. Many of you must have heard the news of WHO urging people to stay home and play video games to make quarantining and passing time much easier. Here we have compiled a list of 5 free multiplayer games you can play with your friends to help you stay connected with them. We had a few criteria in mind before selecting the games: They should be free, they should be non competitive, you should be able to play with or against your friends and they should be able to run entry level gaming PCs. Here are our picks:

Warframe

Warframe

One of the best co-op games to have released. The developers have laboured hard on this game and it shows. It is a co-op looter shooter and you play as space Ninjas. It has a ton of content and you will be playing it for months to come. It has a great single player campaign as well. The implementation of microtransactions in Warframe is a model to follow (In my opinion buying stuff in Warframe just takes away from the fun of earning it).

Destiny 2

Destiny 2

Another looter shooter. Destiny 2 and Warframe are often compared to one another. But while Warframe is completely free, you will have to pay for Destiny 2’s expansion. The players can select three classes to play from. Destiny 2 has a great story line and a great gameplay and is a bit less grindy than Warframe. Where Warframe is a fast paced third person game, Destiny 2 is a first person shooter. Both games have pros and cons (Warframe has a bigger grind but it is better than Destiny 2’s), so I would suggest you try both of them.

Path of Exile

Path of Exile

Path of Exile is an action RPG and borrows heavily from the Diablo series. The game has grown (in terms of the game itself and the player base) quite a lot over the years. All areas aside from the central hub are randomly generated, so this game offers a lot of replayability. The game is free to play in its truest sense; even the expansions for a game of this scale are free. Your characters have a lot of customisation options and there have been quite some bizarre build on the internet by the theorycrafters. Currently this game has a rating of 9/10 on steam, which is very hard for f2p games to achieve.

Brawlhalla

Brawlhalla

I know. I said that we selected non competitive games, but it is a very light game (400 mb) it is friends it will run on almost any PC and it is a ton of fun to play against friends. It is the closest you will get to playing Smash Bros for free or on your PC. It might be not as rich in lore as the above games, but yeeting your friends across the screen can’t be compared to anything else. It is a great game if you are looking to spend a short time with your friends

Dauntless

Dauntless

What do you get when you cross Monster Hunter with Fortnite? You get this game. You take on the role of Slayer in a post apocalyptic world to hunt down monsters known as Behemoths. Dauntless has a fast paced gameplay and Crossplay is one of the best features of the game. But it does have its shortcomings, one of the biggest being that it will become repetitive. Just like Brawlhalla, it will tire you out if you try to play it for hours in a stretch, but it is good for some short sessions.
