Apple introduced the world to its new iOS 14 for iPhone in the WWDC 2020 and all the features the new iOS brings with it. The new iOS 14 is bringing a lot of new features with it that will make the iOS more user friendly. There are now features in iOS 14 that the iPhone users have always thought of but now are finally here.

  • App Library

The first big change announcement was the new app library on iOS 14. Since iOS never had the option of the app drawer like android did, all the apps were downloaded and would keep spilling over and creating new pages. Now with the introduction of app library users can get rid of those extra app pages and have one page with all the apps bundled up in categories. This is such a useful move as most users don’t remember the apps that are beyond the first two or three pages. Now with the new app library, users can just go to the category like “games” and select the game they want to play rather than swiping page after page to find that app.

  • Widgets

This is probably the biggest announcement for the users of the iPhone. Widgets on iOS have never been as intuitive as they have been on android. Widgets on iOS have been always limited but now with iOS 14, all that’s going to change. Users will now be able to choose the widgets they need and customize it as well. Now if the users want to place the widget on their home screen along with the apps they use on a daily basis they can. It’s high time that iPhone user also get the benefits of having the functionality of widgets and the usefulness of having the weather display on the home screen.

  • Messages

The messages app also gets new updates in the iOS 14 and they’re actually more than just a facelift. Now users will be able to pin a specific contact in the messaging app. With this new feature, users can now pin the conversation from that specific contact on the top as a priority in the app. There are changes in group messaging as well. Now users can change their group pictures and by default, the group icon will show the photos of the recently active members of the group. Another massively useful feature is the new notification system within the group where users will get a notification only when they are mentioned in the group.

  • Siri

Siri has been updated as well in the new iOS 14 and it’s not just a small update. Siri has gotten the most massive overhaul in the new update across the Apple ecosystem for the first time. In the new iOS 14, Siri has gotten a new design overhaul with new animations and capabilities. Just like the Google Assistant, Siri too won’t take the entire screen anymore but rather be limited to animation at the bottom of the screen until the users ask Siri to do something.

  • Maps

Apple Maps has also received some new features in the iOS 14 update. Though most of the updates are limited to only some cities and none of them are in India. The Maps will now get cycling as means of transportation just like Google Maps. There are other updates as well but they are spread across the Apple platform and the main update that Apple maps have gotten is in the Apple Watch.

  • Picture in Picture

Now this update was unexpected but the one that was the most important according to me. The new Picture in Picture feature update in iOS 14 will let users have the same floating app functionality that Android users have enjoyed for years. So if you’re listening to music or watching a video then you can now minimize them as a floating window with the new feature update.

These are the new features that Apple has shown in the WWDC 2020 for the new iOS 14. The entire Apple line of products starting from iOS to iPad OS to macOS to even the Apple watch has gotten a massive overhaul. If you want to watch WWDC 2020 you can do that here. For people who want to try the new iOS 14 right now, you can sign up for beta testing and get the new update. As of now, the iOS 14 update is only available for beta testers.
