What's New with Series 7

The biggest change that the Apple Watch Series 7 comes with is the refreshed design. The series 7 is a refinement over series 6 which, Apple says, came with a softer and more rounded design. The display is moving from being a 40-mm case size to a 41-mm case size, and the 44-mm option is moving up a notch to the 45-mm option.  These minor changes lead to a bigger display, with Apple Watch Series 7 having a bigger display with smaller edges and bezels. The bezels of the watch has been reduced by 20%, which will lead to 40% more screen area, according to Apple. Since the casing has not changed much, the bands from older watch models will fit the newer ones and vice versa. Apple says that this new design creates a display that has a unique refractive edge that makes full screen watch faces and apps appear to seamlessly connect with the curvature of the Apple Watch case, which means when you view the series 7, the display should appear to be hanging off the edges of the watch from the side. This should create a cool visual effect that would differentiate this watch from the other ones in the line up.

Since the display is now bigger, Apple is trying to optimize the screen for a better user experience. This is being done by adding more touchpoints, bigger buttons and UI elements along with new watch faces to take advantage of the bigger display. Also, for the first time ever, Apple has introduced a keyboard in Apple Watch. You can type on this small display or use it as a swipe keyboard. This addition will make it easier for the users to send messages, set passwords, etc. on their watch itself. Apple also claims that the new watch will have a 70% brighter always-on display indoors than the previous generation.

More Durable

Apple claims that the Apple Watch Series 7 is the toughest watch they have built and designed. The glass on the watch face has been toughened for 50% more durability. These are some of the major changes in the base variant of the watch, but it is not clear if these changes will be seen on the more premium stainless steel and titanium models. These models already have a Sapphire crystal display, which is already less prone to shattering.

The watch can charge up to 33% in 8 minutes, which is a good sign for all the people who use it all day. It is also the first time that the Apple Watch will be shipping with default USB-C support. On paper, the Series 7 watches seem to have a newer S7 chip but on digging a little deep, you will find that it is the same chip as the last generation, and therefore, there will be no performance upgrades on the Series 7 watches.

The series 7 will also get some new colours. The new watch series is coming out with 5 new colour finishes. These are black, midnight blue, starlight, green and product red. However, other than those changes, everything remains the same as the series 6. The battery backup is also the same at 18-hours on one single full charge.

Conclusion

To conclude, it can be said that if you are someone who likes to ride the bandwagon of the latest tech, then the Apple Watch Series 7 might make for a sensible buy. However, if you are looking for a cheaper alternative, then the series 6 watches are equally good.
