It’s a piece of big news for esports fans out there. Anthony Del Broccolo, the writer and producer of The Big Bang Theory has joined forces with Johnny Galecki, who plays Leonard Hofstadter on the show, to create a comedy serial based on esports, The Squad.

NBC has handed out a script order for the show which will revolve around a group of friends who are involved in esports. The show will be penned by Anthony Del Broccolo himself.  The series’ premise has been described as “an exploration into what it means to finally find ‘your tribe’ after years of feeling like an outsider.”

Del Broccolo will be the lead writer for the series and executive produce it along with John Galecki’s Warner Bros. TV-based Alcide Bava Productions banner.

Galecki has seen quite a lot of fame due to his role as Leonard Hofstadter in The Big Bang Theory, making him one of the highest paid actors. The show was based on four friends who were scientists and very much into geek culture. The show received praise on the accuracy of the portrayal of the culture as well as criticism. Nevertheless, given how much research had been done and how accurately the geek culture was shown, it can be assumed that The Squad is in safe hands.

But this isn’t the only esports series that is being made. CBS earlier announced that it would be doing a show, untitled as of now, based on Rick Fox’s foray into esports. It will explore the life of a retired NBA player who buys an esports organisation to connect with his son. It is just like Rick Fox’s story, who bought Echo Fox to do the same. CBS has already ordered a pilot for the show and we can expect drama since even the real life Rick Fox and Echo Fox controversy is full of drama.
