BlackBerry Rolls Out DTEK60 with Snapdragon 820, 4GB RAM

BlackBerry has released its second smartphone DTEK60 designed and built externally by TCL Corp. The DTEK60, an Android-powered device runs BlackBerry-developed software. The phone's launch comes three months after the release of its predecessor, the DTEK50, which was the first partnership between BlackBerry and the Chinese firm.

The DTEK60 may be the last phone distributed by the company as it moves to outsource hardware design, manufacturing and distribution.

The DTEK60 also features Fingerprint Sensor for added security and convenience when unlocking the device, accessing the Password Keeper app, and making purchases through Android Pay. It allows you to save up to five different fingerprints for maximum convenience.

Dubbed as the world’s most secure Android smartphone, the DTEK60 comes with an alert system that notifies the user if their privacy is at risk. Priced at $499, the smartphone is preloaded with BlackBerry’s DTEK for Android – an app that evaluates the privacy level of the smartphone and recommends user to tweak it as per their need.

This is BlackBerry’s third smartphone to run the Google OS. The DTEK60 brings in a number of upgrades like the new standard Type-C port, along with more RAM and internal storage.

It features a 5.5-inch Quad HD scratch-resistant display. Encased in a metal-frame it has dual-glass panel design. Under the hood lies Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 64-bit quad-core processor which is paired with 4GB of RAM. The DTEK60 comes with 32GB of internal storage which is expandable up to 2TB via microSD card.

BlackBerry has added 3,000mAh battery that comes with Quick Charge3.0 which claims to offer up to 24 hours of talk time and up to 17 hours of video playback.

In terms of camera, the DTEK60 features a 21-megapixel auto-focus rear camera of aperture f/2.0 that is capable of 4K video recording at 30fps and slow-motion HD videos at 120fps. It further comes with PDAF, HDR, fast focus lock, panorama, burst mode, live filters, face detection, video image stabilization, 4x digital zoom, and dual tone LED flash. It has an 8-megapixel front camera with f/2.2 aperture and 84-degree wide-angle lens for selfie lovers. It also comes with HDR, live filters, video image stabilization, selfie panorama, and allows 1080p HD video recording at 30fps. The DTEK60 also offers a front ‘selfie flash’.

The smartphone runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and the latest Nougat update can be expected as well. The phone also includes BlackBerry’s suite of productivity apps, such as the Hub, Calendar, and keyboard. Connectivity options include LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n 2.4 GHz, GPS, Bluetooth v4.2, and NFC.
