Indian Government has been actively banning Chinese apps that have a negative effect on users' privacy. The app ban started when the Indian and Chinese forces were clashing and the tensions were high at the borders of both countries. The first Chinese app ban was implemented on June 29 which included the famous Tiktok app. Since then many apps have been banned from the Indian Google Playstore for engaging in practices that are detrimental to the users of India. Now the latest news is that more apps have been banned and those include the Xiaomi Internet browser and the famous Chinese search engine giant Baidu. Other apps that have been banned include mostly lite versions of the app that were banned previously.

The ban on Xiaomi Mi Internet Browser was the most shocking one. Since this the app that comes as the default internet browsers on Xiaomi and Redmi smartphones. The app is no longer available on Google Playstore but is still available on the smartphones that it came preinstalled on. This ban has raised some eyebrows over Xiaomi India and may even slow down the sales of its new smartphones. It remains to be seen if the new Redmi 9 Prime will also ship with the internet browser. Xiaomi India has been one of the highest-selling smartphone manufacturers in the country but has been under serious scrutiny since the reports of privacy issues have started coming in.

It remains to be seen how Xiaomi India will respond to this ban on its default internet browser but it does raise a huge point for Chinese smartphone manufacturers. Xiaomi smartphones and especially Redmi smartphones are criticized for giving their users advertisements in all the default Xiaomi apps. This move is usually done to keep the price of the device low but it raises serious concerns over the privacy of user's data being at threat on these devices.
