ESL One New York

ESL One New York was a highly anticipated event as it marked the return of Evil Geniuses to CS:GO. The Esports company had recently acquired the full roster of NRG (just a few days before the event) and they made it to the finals.

Although fans were expecting a stellar performance from Faze, the team disappointed and got knocked out in the group stage itself.

EG had quite a dominating run throughout the tournament, not dropping a single match the entire event. They also had to face Astralis previously before the finals. They won that match, which set up the stage for a nail biting rematch in the grand finals.

The first map was Inferno, which EG completely dominated. The second map, Dust II, saw both the teams going toe to toe until EG finally managed to snag the rounds from Astralis. The third map, Train, which was Astralis’ pick, went to Astralis. The last match in Nuke was taken by Evil Geniuses 16-8, thus netting a 3-1 victory to EG over Astralis.

EG won $100,000 from the $200,000 prize money, whereas Astralis took home $40,000.
