On August 23, Wednesday, the opening night of Gamescom 2023 in Cologne showcased an outstanding lineup. The inaugural presentation was over two hours long but featured a number of brilliant and diverse moments, from Starfield's cosmic breadth to Alan Wake 2's cryptic depths. Major gaming companies participate in Gamecom, the biggest gaming convention in Europe.

What is Gamescom?

Gamescom is one of the biggest gaming events. Thousands of developers and publishers from around the world gather at the conference to showcase creativity and innovation in the gaming industry at large. Exhibitors from 60 different countries are expected at the conference.

Who all are present at Gamescom 2023?

Amazon Games, Bethesed Softworks and Bandai Namco are among the big names at Gamescom 2023. 

At opening night fans were treated to Nintendo Switch goodies. A live trailer for Starfield was also shown at the opening. The game is expected to arrive in September 2023. Several other new games have also been announced. Here are some of the popular ones, Little Nightmares IIl: 2024, Sonic Superstart coming on October 17, 2023, and Lord of the Fallen coming on October 13, 2023.

What popular games to watch out for?

In addition to notable fall releases like Starfield, Mortal Kombat1, and Alan Wake 2, many lesser-known games also took center stage. Quantic Dream brought out Dustborn, while the creators of Untitled Goose Game delivered the immersive game Thank You for Being Here. The presentation included the expected glimpses of Black Myth: Wukong and Crimson Desert. Marvel Snap has made its debut on Steam, and the confirmed release date for the medieval multiplayer Warhaven has been revealed.

The icing on the cake was the announcement of The Game Awards on December 7th. Opening night also saw the trailer for Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon. A game of space travel, guns and swords promises to be an adrenaline-pumping affair. Rebel Moon Episode 1 titled Child of Fire will be released on Netflix on December 22, 2023, while Scargiver will be released on April 19, 2024.
