Amazon, the US-based e-commerce giants only allowed users to shop, pay the bills, recharge their smartphones, etc. on its Indian website, but now the company has tied up with ClearTrip to let users book domestic flights tickets.
The new flight booking feature is available on both Amazon’s mobile and web-based platforms and to further push the sales, the company is offering cashbacks of up Rs 2,000 which will remain active till May 31. The cashback offer is available to both prime and non-prime members.
The Prime members are titled to a cashback of Rs 800 on flight ticket that costs less than Rs 8,000. On the same, the non-Prime members would get a cash back of Rs 400. For a flight ticket costing between Rs 8,000 and Rs 19,999, prime members would get a cashback of Rs 1,200 and the non-Prime members would get a cash back of Rs 8,00. Lastly, for tickets costing above Rs 20,000, the prime members will get Rs 2,000 as cashback and the non-Prime members would get a cashback of Rs 1,600.
According to the company, the cashback offer can be used only once and it will be credited to the Amazon Pay balance within three working days after the tickets have been booked. Amazon won’t charge any additional fees, if users cancel their flight bookings.
With this expansion of flight booking on its platform, Amazon is preparing to fight with the Google Pay that currently offers train bookings, hotel and flight booking in India.
In April, the e-commerce giant introduced UPI based peer-to-peer payments option via Amazon Pay for its Android users in India. With this new payment feature, Amazon users can do bank-to-bank transfers using UPI enabling consumers to pay rent, groceries or to lend money to friends and family by simply scanning a UPI QR code in the Amazon app.
