Google Adds More Security Layers for its User’s Accounts by Introducing Dark Web Report

The Dark Web report is Google’s most recent effort to strengthen account security and inform users of their accounts’ whereabouts with relation to Dark Web exposure.

The Dark web report in Google accounts is now being gradually sent out to users, and it is anticipated that in the upcoming weeks it will be accessible to all users worldwide.

What is Dark Web report feature?

Dark Web Report is a feature that searches the dark web for potential leaks and data breaches of user accounts and whether personal information such as email address and password has been leaked online. 

The feature allows users to monitor the dark web  associated with an email address, and the results of a breach can include information such as your name, address, phone number, email address, social security number (SSN), username and password. It should also be noted that Dark Web reports are available for both free and Google One users.

However, some features may be restricted to paid users only. Keep your personal information on the dark web 

  •  Enter results for information other than an email address
  •  Notifications about new results
  •  Steps to scan the dark web in your Google account
  •  Download and install the latest version of the Google app
  •  Now click on the profile icon and select Dark Web Report
  •  Then click the Start Scan button on the next page
  •  Wait for the scan to finish and then check the result

f you discover violations in your account,  Google will also provide recommendations on possible actions you should take. Follow these steps to protect your account. 

Is the Dark Web report useful for Indian users?

The Dark Web report identifies relevant information to be found about hacking attempts and data breaches. Google says these results are compared with private information stored in users’ control profiles. The management of user tracking profile data follows Google’s privacy policy, and users can opt in or out of tracking.
