With apps being growing exponentially, subscription-based services are on the rise and the search giant Google is the latest to join that bandwagon. Apple in its third-quarter results announced a high profit in the subscription bases services including Apple Arcade, Apple Music, etc.

To tap into that growing market, Google is testing a new ‘Play Pass’ subscription service, which will offer a wide number of premium apps and games without any ads or in-app purchases. So, where is the catch. Google will charge a monthly fee.

According to the screenshots of the app that are leaked in the media reveal some details about the service, and it also sounds identical to the Apple Arcade subscription. Apple Arcade is a game subscription service that features over 100 new and exclusive games. The Apple Arcade is designed to give customers the freedom to try any game from its handpicked collection of titles that are all-you-can-play, have no ads, ad tracking or additional purchases, and respect user privacy.

For Google Play Pass subscription service, customers will pay a monthly $4.99 fee for unlimited access to a catalogue of premium apps and games without being disrupted by ads and will have all the in-app purchases unlocked. The leaked screenshots reveal titles such as Monument Valley, Knights of the Old Republic, Threes, Limbo, Stardew Valley, Ticket to Ride, Marvel Pinball. The company is also testing a family plan which is likely to cost more than the base $4.99 price.

One major difference between the Google Play Pass service and Apple Arcade is that the latter is majorly focused on games and on titles that are somewhat exclusive to the Apple ecosystem.

On the other hand, the Play Pass will offer access to the existing catalogue of games and apps that are already on the Google Play Store.

However, the Play Pass service is in the testing phase as of now, and there is no official statement as to when it will be announced.
