Microsoft releases the Windows 11 update with the AI-powered personal assistant Copilot, bringing enhanced functionality including AI for digital creation and sketching in Paint, AI features in Snipping Tool, and better AI-enabled functions in the Photos app.

With more than 150 new capabilities, the next Windows 11 upgrade is one of its most ambitious ever, according to the software giant. It will bring the strength of Copilot and new AI-powered experiences to applications like Paint, Photos, Clipchamp, and more directly to your Windows PC.

Announcing the new AI-powered feature in Windows 11, Microsoft wrote: "Copilot uniquely combines context and intelligence from your network, your work data, and what you're currently doing on your computer to better help you with your privacy and security. It's simple, a seamless experience available on Windows 11, Microsoft 365 and our browser with Edge and Bing."

New features in Windows 11 Copilot

Paint Revamp: The old Paint app is getting a generative AI update with Windows 11 Copilot, and the Redmond-based company is promising features like AI for drawing and digital creation, background removal and more. In addition, Microsoft also announced that the preview of Paint Cocreator will begin to Windows Insiders starting today and will be available to the public in the coming days. Cocreator helps users create unique images by entering text and choosing a style.

AI Features in Snipping Tool: Snipping Tool now has the ability to capture sounds while recording your screen. Users can start screen recording in Windows by pressing Windows Shift R or the Print Screen button.

Interestingly, the software now has features like extracting specific text from an image and protecting sensitive information through text editing.

Photos app updates: Microsoft has also updated the Photos app with new AI features like background blur and improved search results. Background Blur allows users to highlight the subject of their photo by automatically finding and blurring the background. Users can also change the strength of the blur and make changes to the areas they want to blur.

No more passwords: Microsoft is introducing a new feature called Passkeys to create a unique, unguessable ID that lets users skip passwords and use their face, fingerprint or device PIN to sign into their account.

"Passwords can be used without additional login hassles, making the authentication process faster, more secure and more convenient. Passwords are a more secure and convenient way to sign in to websites and apps than passwords," Microsoft stated.

File manager

Microsoft is giving File Explorer a new, modernized look with the new Windows 11 update. File Explorer's new address bar and search field are designed to give users easy access to important and relevant information.

In addition, a new Gallery feature will be added to File Explorer to make it easier for users to access their photo collection. File Explorer can now also open archive formats such as RAR and 7-Zip.
