DICE and EA have had trying a couple of years, to say the least. Battlefield V tanked and everyone knows what a disaster Star Wars: Battlefront II was. So much so that governments actually started discussing the legality of lootboxes in video games after the whole Battlefront II controversy. A few days ago DICE had announced that they would be seizing development for both, Battlefield V and Battlefront II, which means no more updates. But they haven’t completely given up on their bestselling FPS franchise.

In a statement to IGN, an EA spokesperson confirmed that we will in fact be seeing a new Battlefield game in 2021: “Longer term, the studio is focused on the future of Battlefield that we’ll be bringing to players in 2021."

EA also said that the reason they have planned for a 2021 release is also that by then, the next gen consoles would have a larger install base as compared to 2021. "Bringing out Battlefield , where the new console base is fairly small, doesn't really give justice to the potential of the title, and so that's part of our driver in moving the title into fiscal 22”, they said.

Looks like, after the failure of their last two games, EA and DICE do not want to take any chances.
