The Nothing Phone (2), the company's most recent flagship phone, is reportedly getting ready for an inexpensive release. With a design like that of the Nothing Phone (1), the next phone may go by the moniker Nothing Phone 2a.
On X (previously Twitter), Nothing recently changed its bio to read, "Something is coming this week." Rumor has it that it may be the Phone 2a, a less expensive variant of the brand's most recent flagship phone, the Nothing Phone (2), however, the company has not confirmed this.
According to a recent X post by well-known tipster Abhishek Yadav, Nothing could announce the phone's release date later this week. The news comes after another well-known tipster spotted the upcoming phone with model number A142 on the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) website earlier this month.
Earlier this year in August, Nothing added a new device to the IMEI database with model number AIN142, showing the back of the phone. Although the model numbers may not be the same, this may be due to different internal identifiers or regional differences.
Nothing Phone 2a Expected features
Like the Nothing Phone (1), the Nothing Phone 2a may have a boxy design, a transparent back panel, and a Glyph interface. The upcoming phone is rumored to have a 6.7-inch AMOLED display and a hole for the front-facing camera. Compared to Nothing’s current lineup of two phones, the Nothing Phone 2a has a different battery capacity as the company requested a new battery with model number NT03.
Although nothing is known about the chipset of the Nothing Phone 2a, since it is a more affordable version of the Nothing Phone (2), we expect it to have an SoC that offers more performance than the Snapdragon 778G and is less powerful than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
Some leaks also suggest that the upcoming phone will have dual cameras and a glass back. At the time of writing, the Nothing Phone (1) doesn't seem to be available on Flipkart, so we might see the Nothing Phone 2a replace the company's 2022 offering.
