Now Download and Watch Content Offline on Netflix

Subscribers can now download shows from Netflix at no additional cost on their mobile devices which can be watched later without an internet connection.

Providing offline viewing option will allow the company to better compete with other streaming services as the streaming video market is getting crowded. Inc’s rival streaming video service, Prime Video, has already introduced offline viewing option.

In an announcement on its website, Eddy Wu, the company’s director of product innovation, said that “while many members enjoy watching Netflix at home, we’ve often heard they also want to continue their Stranger Things binge while on airplanes and other places where internet  is expensive or limited.”

“Just click the download button on the details page for a film or TV series and you can watch it later without an internet connection,” he continued.

This new service was announced on Wednesday and it will be available to all of Netflix’s subscribers. This move can boost the adoption of Netflix in international markets such as Africa and Asia, where internet service is a problem.

This year Netflix has added 13.2 million international subscribers, including 3.2 million in the third quarter.

However, not everything is available for download just yet, including the recently released “Gilmore Girls” revival. Currently available shows include Netflix-owned “Stranger Things,” “The Crown” and “Narcos” along with licensed shows and movies like “Parks and Recreation” and “Spotlight.”

The new feature is available with all the existing plans and can be downloaded on phones and tablets running on Android and iOS platforms, the company said.
