During an interaction with Lewis George Hilsenteger on the Unbox Therapy YouTube channel, Pete confirmed that OnePlus will soon unveil its first foldable device. He also highlighted that the upcoming OnePlus foldable, likely to be called the OnePlus Open, features a new hinge system that is lighter yet stronger and is also confirmed to be made with fewer components when compared to the Oppo Find N2.

According to Pete, the OnePlus Open will deliver the same fast and smooth experience as previous smartphones, and the device will also include the brand’s iconic alert slider. The OnePlus Open is also said to be a result of creative collaboration between Oppo and OnePlus. However, it is also confirmed that OnePlus currently has no plans to launch a flip-style foldable, similar to the Oppo Find N2 Flip, and will only focus on large-screen foldable smartphones.

According to a report by GSMArena, the OnePlus Open will feature a 7.82-inch primary foldable display and a 6.31-inch cover display with minimal crease and almost zero hinge gap, as highlighted in Unbox Therapy’s video. The smartphone is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, with up to 18 GB of RAM and 512 GB of internal storage.

Finally acknowledging that it and its sibling company OPPO are releasing the same foldable gadget under various names, OnePlus sent an email to The Verge. The OPPO Find N3 is rumored to remain only available in the Chinese market, but this has not been confirmed, while the OnePlus Open could be made available outside.

Mr. Lau appeared in the YouTube promotional video "New OnePlus Folding Phone Exclusive First Look" for Unbox Therapy. He disclosed that the company has 35 patents filed just for the phone's hinge mechanism and praised all of its design elements.

On October 19, OnePlus Open is scheduled to go live worldwide. Since it was recently photographed in the hands of Indian actress Anushka Sharma, the foldable is also anticipated to arrive in India.
