OnePlus TV to debut first in India, confirms CEO Pete Lau

OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has confirmed that the OnePlus TV would make its global debut in India in September but date is not revealed yet.

OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has confirmed that the company’s most anticipate device for 2019, the OnePlus TV will be debuted first in India and will launch in September. While the exact date is yet to be announced, the company will reveal more information in the coming months. According to media reports, the TV is expected to launch on September 26.

Lau announced India confirmation on the OnePlus forums. OnePlus TV will also see the light of the day in North America, Europe, and China, once partnerships with local content providers are established.

‘OnePlus TV will live up to your expectations of what is, without reservations, a new premium flagship,’ Lau added.

The OnePlus TV will be Amazon exclusive, the platform also sells its smartphones. Amazon has already begun taking registrations of interested consumes, and has put the ‘Notify Me' button on a dedicated OnePlus TV page.

According to Lau’s interview in Business Insider, the OnePlus TV will sport 4K resolution quantum dot or QLED display panels and will run a skinned version of Google's Android TV platform. The TV is expected to run on Android with built-in Alexa or Google Assistant and would also offer support for HDR10 playback and Dolby Atmos surround sound technology which can be even found in budget 4K TVs. The TV would be available in variety of screen sizes – from 43-inches to 75-inches.

The TV may not come with OLED panels, considered to be more premium and better than current LED panels, Lau said. The OnePlus TV could leverage artificial intelligence and next-generation 5G connectivity.
