PCQ User’s Choice Awards 2021: Traditional players still dominate

Dell and Hewlett-Packard (HP) still dominate the Indian market and the former is this year’s winner of the Users’ Choice Award for the laptop category while HP is the first runner-up. Lenovo takes the second runner-up spot.

Several brands are operating in the vast Indian market. Almost every brand sells their products in different categories that includes – budget, mid-range, premium, and gaming. The laptop cost typically starts at Rs. 20,000 and goes up to 2.5 lakhs depending on the specs and features.

Most of the laptop brands import device from China or Taiwan. Since the Government of India has mandated to mention the country of origin on products. So, while purchasing any device you can check from which country a particular brand is importing laptops.

There was a time when HP was ruling in the Indian market and Dell was giving it a strong competition. The story has not changed much, now Dell is leading while HP is the biggest contender. Lenovo is still retaining its third spot, followed by Apple and Acer.

In our Spontaneous Awareness ranking Dell scored 88 per cent, HP got 86 per cent and Lenovo 78 per cent followed by Acer (52 per cent) and Apple (51per cent).

Dell is currently being used by most of the participants — 31 per cent. It’s 29 per cent for HP and 19 per cent for Lenovo. This is followed by Samsung — 5 per cent sharing, followed by Acer 4 per cent.

When asked for future consideration of brand, users HP came to first spot with 42 per cent and Dell with 40 per cent of choice. Here Apple grabbed the third spot replacing Lenovo with 39 per cent while Lenovo got 31 per cent, followed by Acer 13 per cent.

Overall consumers are satisfied with the product they are using which reflects the survey where the top spot is captured by Dell again followed by HP and Lenovo.

But when it comes to purchasing your brand’s product in the future the results were interestingly different. Here Lenovo grabbed the first spot along with Dell and then followed by HP, Samsung and Acer. Meaning Lenovo and Dell users are most loyal to the brand.

In terms of advocacy of the brand which users currently have, the spot got changed completely. HP got the first rank to be recommended by its users, followed by Lenovo and Dell, then Asus came to fourth and Samsung grabbed fifth spot.

Dell and HP have impressed its users with their quality of the product. Price was the factor for Lenovo, Acer and Samsung products while users trusted Dell, Lenovo and Acer for after sales support/service.
