The business said at its 2023 Roblox Developers Conference (RDC) that the well-known gaming platform Roblox will be arriving to PS4 and PS5 devices in October. Additionally, Roblox unveiled a new conversational AI assistant that can aid developers in creating content for the app.
On the PC, Mac, iOS, Android, and Xbox, Roblox may be downloaded for free. More than 65 million gamers, according to the business, log onto Roblox daily for an average of 2.3 hours. With the release of Sony's systems, it may rise to the top of the list of gaming platforms worldwide.
What is Roblox?
In 2020, Roblox said (via Bloomberg) that two-thirds of all American children between the ages of 9 and 12 play the game. Roblox is popular because it allows users to create their own games. Roblox says PlayStation players will have access to "the full catalog of Roblox experiences."
Roblox on Switch
Now that Sony PlayStation is getting Roblox, there's only one major platform left where the popular platform isn't available: the Switch console. "We want Roblox to be available on all devices, all over the world. We currently have no immediate plans to make Roblox available on Nintendo Switch," company spokesman Roman Skuratovskiy told The Verge.
CEO David Baszucki hinted during an earnings call in August that the company plans to bring the app to the Nintendo Switch. Baszucki also said during the conference that Roblox is expanding to more places: "Stay tuned because more platforms are coming." The company also opened up the ability for developers to create experiences for Roblox in Meta Quest.
Roblox AI Chatbot
The company also introduced Assistant at RDC, a conversational AI chat that will be available in Roblox Studio and Creator Hub later this year. "Assistant builds on Roblox's existing use of creative AI while lowering the barriers to entry for new or less experienced creators, empowering older creators to automate tedious, repetitive tasks and quickly scale their work," the company said.
Roblox Assistant allows creators to create virtual environments by inserting text prompts similar to chatbots such as ChatGPT and Google Bard used to generate other content such as photos and articles.
