It is a true story. As the video explains, the system couldn’t detect any cheats being used by the PUBG Mobile cheater. But on closer look, they found that the person changed his mobile device halfway through the game. He basically logged into the second device, while remaining logged onto the first one. This fooled the game into thinking that the person was having a connection problem. Then while the data submission was blacked, he used a cheat to kill other players. Then he switched back to the original phone to make it appear that he was playing normally. They sent a “directional monitoring code” to the second phone to verify this and found out that he was indeed cheating. And the cheater ended up getting banned for 10 years.

The video below by PUBG explains it all in detail and how, despite the constant pressure by the PUBG Mobile cheater, they stood their ground. The video is very dramatic to the point of being comical even.
