The pocket and space friendly AIO packs a battery to keep you productive in case of emergency

The ASUS E2040INK AIO sports 19.5" screen featuring matte finish with a slim black bezel. Running on Windows 8.1 Bing, the AIO lacks touch-screen which is something we don't expect from budget category AIOs. It has 500GB hard drive plus 100GB cloud storage on ASUS WebStorage for free and smart backup power to prevent data loss. It is also equipped with Hand-Gesture Recognition Software (HGRS) that uses the built-in camera to accurately interpret movements so you don’t have to be within touching distance of your PC all the time.

A 1.0 MP front camera resides at top center for video-calling, skype calls whether at home or at office. Volume and brightness control buttons are along with three USB 3.0 ports, LAN, HDMi port are housed at left side of screen. The right side includes three USB 2.0 ports and 3.5 mm audio jack.  The screen panel looks clean when nothing is plugged into it but once you start using ports, it looks untidy. The entire screen sits on a sturdy tilt-able stand and can be adjusted in a variety of modes to suit you. As for peripherals it comes with basic keyboard and mouse both of which are USB-wired. The keys are comfortable to type on and registering the input is breeze.

Decent performance

It's  always nice when manufacturers push above average processor and graphic components into pocket-friendly, energy -efficient machines. The ASUS E2040INK AIO is one of those machines featuring Intel J2900 processor coupled with HD graphics. The quad core Intel J2900 On board processor is a part of Bay-Trail D family. The SoC processor is based on Silvermont architecture having increased buffers, efficient pipeline utilization which contributes to about 50% increased performance. We ran various performance benchmarks to utilitize the AIO for its full computing capability. In PC Mark 8 Creative test suite which comprises of web browsing, basic photo editing, media performance etc it scored 1233. In 3D Mark Cloud Gate that measures graphical capability of AIO based on 3D rendition, multimedia tasks it scored 1440 that simply ensures that it can very well handle multitasking without glitches.

Being budget-friendly, the AIO is not capable of processing intense graphics tasks but it is good for casual multimedia consumption. The color formation is great when looking directly in front of AIO, however its color reproduction is not accurate when viewing from sides. Black levels are good, images and text looked crisp but are slightly out of focus from sides.  We also ran HD and Full HD videos and it performed well with good color reproduction.

The speakers on the AIO are decent and produce sound well enough to keep you entertained even if you are not in the close proximity of the device. They are acceptably loud and are distortion free at higher volumes. If you want to listen to bass heavy tracks, the sound gets muffled and lacks bass. Playing songs, adjusting player settings, zooming or rotating photos is accurate and breeze with advanced HGRS. The built-in battery took about 2 hour 30 minutes to charge from 10%. However  when we tested it for backup, where we looped a video constantly until the battery drained out, it lasted for 1 hour 45 minutes.
