Canon MF226dn is a work group printer offering Fax, Print, Scan and Copy with ADF targeting SMB segment
Compact Design
The MFP comes in all black color and has a smaller footprint thus can save you on real estate. The printer offers touch and scroll 6 line adjustable LCD display and is equipped with 128MB built-in memory. Apart from LCD touch screen, the control panel also has alpha-numeric pad, reset button, quiet mode, start and stop button and home button. Being an SMB targeted MFP, we would have appreciated if it should have accommodated direct USB printing. The MF226dn can print, copy, scan, and fax both single- and two-sided documents and scan to a PC. The MFP incorporates Energy Saver Mode and automatically pushes itself to sleep mode when not in use thereby optimizing power consumption.
Performance
Setting the printer is easy via USB interface and will require only few minutes. We tested the printer with standard ISO test pages with 5% ink coverage in Normal print mode. It printed 26 A4 B/W pages in a minute with first page out in 7 seconds. For copying, it copied 25 A4 B/W pages in a minute with first page out in 7 seconds. Overall output quality is good and text looked decent and is good enough for any internal business need.
The MFP can scan both B/W and color pages directly to a PC in pdf format. It scanned a B/W A4 page and color A4 page in 16 seconds. Instead of white background we noticed a tinge of pink color in background while scanning a color page. It also has Quiet Mode wherein the noise of MFP is reduced accompanied by slower print operation and it printed 12 A4 B/W pages in a minute.
We also fired some prints from iPhone 5S via AirPrint and it worked efficiently without any interruption.
