Huawei’s Honor family proves its self a good range of smartphones in the Indian market and Honor 5X is the newest member. This mid-range smartphone has an essence of everything you might be looking in a smartphone.

Design

The back of this smartphone is entirely built out of metal with a brushed finish over it, which is something you don’t see on the phones at this price range. It gives a very premium look and feel although it can be a little bit slippery. Honor used high-grade metal to build the body, but it's a little bit prone to scratches if you used it ruggedly or get dropped it somewhere.

The volume and power buttons are on the right side with the good amount of tactile feedback. The button has pattern texture which certainly not feel cheap. You will find the 3.5mm headphone jack on the top with a speaker and USB charging port being on the bottom. The device is about 158g and 8.2mm thick. The back of the phone has the camera, with single-tone LED flash and fingerprint sensor with some text and logo at the bottom. The front panel is very clean, the upper portion of display has the front camera, sensor and ear speaker. The navigation buttons are placed on the screen, so you could miss the capacitive touch buttons which were used to place at the bottom in its previous devices.

Display

When you power on the phone you will find a color rich 5.5 inches full HD (1080x1920 pixels) IPS LCD display. The quality and color reproduction of display is excellent, the colors are vibrant and not too warm or saturated.  You will see a noticeable black border around the screen which might be odd for some people but that does not create any problem while playing games or watching videos.

Camera

Honor 5X comes with a 13 MP camera at the rear that captures beautiful images. It clicked pictures with rich colors and even the dim areas have a decent amount of details. The 5 MP front camera is capable of taking some decent selfies.

Performance

The Honor 5X is running on the Qualcomm MSM8939v2 Snapdragon 616 with an Adreno 405 GPU and 2 Gb RAM for multitasking. For storage, it comes with 16GB ROM expandable upto128 GB. However, it is not the fastest phone in the market but we didn’t find any difficulty while playing games and multitasking thanks to a combination of good hardware. The fingerprint sensor recognizes the fingerprints at any angle with remarkable accuracy rate. The fingerprint scanner works brilliantly and unlocks the device in less than 0.5 seconds. You can also use the biometric sensor to secure your apps and can also do other multiple things such as notification access, alarm silence, answer calls, clicking images and more. To test fingerprint sensor, we tried to unlock the phone from various angles by using our fingerprint and out of 10 times, it recognizes it 9.5 times without any issue.

The Honor 5X Phone's software part is powered by Android v5.1.1 with customized Huawei's EMUI 3.1 Huawei interface. We didn’t find any remarkable changes in the interface look and it almost similar to other Honor smartphone of Huawei. You can also customize your phone by installing various themes and inbuilt options.

If we talk about the Honor 5X battery, then this phone comes with 3000mAH non-removable battery and the backup it provides is pretty impressive. Being fully charged and in our moderate usage (call, camera, social apps, Wifi, and 3G) it gives us the backup of 1.5 to 2 days which is great for a device with such as a big screen. There is battery setting option in the phone with several power saving modes which help you to limit the background process and apps to reduce the consumption of the battery power.
