After getting a huge success in the smartphone segment, Micromax entered into the PC industry. First, they launched two devices in the Canvas Lapbook series, which we have already reviewed in our labs, and this time, they come with a new offering LAPbook L1160. This looks better than previous siblings but what about performance? Is it better or nor, that we have to find out...

Improved looks with sleek profile

The Canvas Lapbook L1160 has the basic design and is similar to its predecessors, but has the sleek profile and streamlined edges. It looks premium with a metallic finish on the top while rest of the body is black in color. It has two hinges which keep the screen stable in various angle, however, you can't turn the screen for 180 degrees which is possible with Lenovo Ideapad 100S. With only 1.3 kg weight, the Canvas Lapbook has only 18 mm thickness, making it a perfect partner to carry along. The entire body is made of durable plastic making it a decent device.

Sharp Display

The lapbook has an 11.6-inch (1280X800p) screen producing vivid visuals. With the good brightness levels, it offers decent viewing experience. You can enjoy games and movies and share the screen with your friends and family as it offers wide viewing angles. This comes with dual Realtek ALC5645 Audio Codec speakers placed on top of the keyboard. It produces rich sound, even on high volumes , you would enjoy the crispy sound quality.

Full chicklet style keyboard

Micromax added the chicklet style keyboard with all the required keys. Also, it has various shot-keys which will function using the combination with “Fn”. It gives you good typing experience. The touch-pad is also good in size and has two left and right buttons, making your navigation easy, but they feel cheap. This also comes with 0.3 MP webcam, which is good for video chats. You can enjoy skype calls with it, but the quality of the images and videos are poor.

Comes with all required connectivity options

Micromax tried to bring all possible connectivity features in this small device. It comes with inbuilt Wi-Fi has 2 USB 2.0 slots and Bluetooth 4.0. You can share the screen with other devices using HDMI port as well as it has LAN port which we rarely find in this kind of devices.

A decent notebook

The LAPbook is powered by 1.3 GHz Quad-core Intel Atom processor and backed by 2GB DDR3 RAM. It comes with built-in 32 GB of memory that can be expanded up to 64 GB using a microSD card and runs on latest Windows 10 OS. Though the combination has no major difference than the previous devices, however, the performance is comparatively better. We used the device for more than three weeks running various apps. In day-to-day usage, we didn't find any performance lag when running MS-Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Note, etc.) and two browsers with more than 4 tabs in each simultaneously.

Decent Battery

The Canvas Lapbook is equipped with a 4100mAh battery that can last for more than 8 hours in moderate usage, web browsing, playing games for a while, etc. In our video loop test, it lasted for 5 hours 55 minutes, playing video over Wi-Fi, with full brightness and volume. We were not expecting such battery performance but this makes it the right companion to roam around without worrying about the power source.
