UHD or 4K TV’s have been quite expensive for most people to afford. But finally, they are landing into budget for consumers. Philips 4K LED TV is a good example that offers full 3,840*2,160 resolution at a reasonable price.

Design

Framed in a thin black bezel around the screen, it is a visually appealing TV. The bottom bezel is a bit thicker as it houses the speakers. All the connectivity options including 4 HDMi ports, 2 USB ports and other analog controls are housed at the left back panel. The ports will be hard to access if the TV is mounted on wall as they are pushed 6-7 inches inside. The screen sits on a matching base stand which does not swivel.

Picture Quality

Featuring 3,840*2,160 UHD resolution, and powered by Pixel Plus Ultra HD picture quality engine, the Philips LED TV delivers truer black levels and superior contrast ratio. Far away objects also look detailed and even the depth of the shadows is a pleasure to watch. The 400 Hz motion rate delivers smooth viewing experience for fast moving images. The screen also shows great color accuracy and skin tones and other elements look clear and sharp. When we fed the TV with 4K content, it rendered high fidelity images, wider color gamut enhancing color accuracy and greater depth of field. The colors don’t fade off even while viewing from off angles.

Ambilight Technology

The LED TV is equipped with Ambilight hues at the two sides of back panel that projects glow onto the surrounding wall. Each time the visuals change, the light projection changes too. It creates a perfect ambience by moving color, vibrancy and excitement beyond the screen and into your living room walls. You’ll enjoy a completely new way of movie watching experience as the TV sets right mood by the magnificent display colors. You can also turn off the hues or adjust the brightness and contrast that best suit your eyeballs. You can choose between Standard, Natural, Vivid, Comfort, Relax and Gaming hue modes.

Sound

The built-in 25W down firing speakers deliver good sound in music but a bit thinner while watching movies. The bass produced by the system is decent with reasonable amount sparkle wherever required. Dialogues and vocals sound clear, bright and rich. The sound is best experienced at 60-100% volume levels. 6 preset sound modes have been supplied viz. Personal, Original, Music, Movies, Games, News to choose the one that best suits you.

3D

The 3D projected by the TV is crisp, easy on eyes and pushes good depth but we experienced slight flicker through the supplied active glasses at times. You can also customize the 3D depth with the in-built 3D depth adjustment setting that best suits the content on-screen.

Smart TV

Advertisment

Being a smart TV it lets you share your smart phone screen to TV via Miracast. You can browse the internet, watch you tube video on demand. With Multiroom TV feature, it has the power to connect and interact with another TV on the same network. Once established, you can broadcast digital TV or recordings from this to other one. You can also turn your smartphone into TV remote control with MyRemote App. The app even lets you change the colors of Ambilight.

Remote

An interesting part of the TV is its remote. It is double-sided and very functional. One side holds the conventional HDTV controls, playback buttons, a number pad, and quick-access keys for home, smart TV, search etc. The other side of the remote holds a QWERTY keyboard, which can be used to enter text in the HDTV’s menu system or in different apps.
