Another 3.5-inch hard drive from Seagate, but it's not an ordinary drive. The 10 TB capacity drive has helium technology and advanced Write Caching feature for 20% boost in random write performance. The company claims to reduce TCO as the drive reduced power and cooling costs. It comes with Seagate Secure Self-Encrypted Drive technology to protect the data. Additionally, it is lighter in weight.

The Seagate 10 TB Enterprise Capacity 3.5 HDD (Helium) is specially engineered for large-scale data centres (DCs). This could benefit to build maximum-density storage solutions, that scale to meet future needs.

Electrifying Performance

To test the drive, we used a standard system comprising of an Intel i5 CPU clocked at 3.5 GHz, Gigabyte GA-H61M-S1 Motherboard, 4 GB RAM and Windows 7 OS. The set of benchmark tools that we used to test the read/write speed includes HD Tune Pro and CrystalDisk Mark. The resulting speeds were 244.1 MB/sec (max), 20 MB/sec (min) and 248.8 (read) MB/sec, 242.6 MB/sec (write) respectively.

To test its real-life performance, we transferred 2 GB worth of files and folders from the drive to our test system to check for speed; the drive took 30 seconds to complete the transfer. Also, when copying from the source drive to HDD it completed the transfer within 27 minutes. The per GB cost comes out to be Rs. 4.7 which is lower than other drives. While testing the drive, we didn't feel any heat or noise from the drive, making it the perfect choice for Data Centers.
