The vivo X5Pro is a beautiful looking smartphone, with 2.5D glass on both sides of the device and Corning Gorilla Glass for scratch resistance. The phone resembles an iPhone, with the glass rising just a bit above the frame, smooth and curved edges, and a strong, stainless steel and Aluminum Alloy frame. Overall, it has a good solid build quality and is a pleasure to hold.

The phone is just 6.44 mm thin, with a 5.2 inch super AMOLED display supporting 1080p screen resolution, which results in crystal clear picture quality whether you’re watching movies or scanning through photos.

Setting up the phone is a breeze, especially if you already have a Gmail account, as it will automatically sync all your contacts and update your address book. A small problem we noticed was that if you have a heavy address book on Gmail, then the phone takes a while to search through your contacts. This is usually not the case in most smarpthones, which instantly start displaying results the moment you type a letter.

The smartphone’s GUI is nice and slightly different from the usual Android ones. Pressing the menu button doesn’t display all running apps, but instead shows special widgets and transition effects. Unlike most smartphones, where a swipe down from top down displays notifications and basic settings, this phone just shows notifications and alerts. A swipe from bottom up displays all basic settings like WiFi, Data, etc. Plus, it also displays the apps running in the background, which can be removed by ‘flicking’ them out.

The smartphone’s audio specs are pretty good with a nice and loud speaker, and in-ear headphones that playback crystal clear music. The smartphone comes with a complimentary rear plastic case, pin, USB cable, charger, and earphones with an extra pair of ear plugs. It has three keys at the bottom for home, return, and menu, which are unfortunately not backlit. There’s a tiny light on the top right that blinks whenever the phone gets notifications.

Performance

Our overall experience with the phone was pretty good, but it does tend to become a little unresponsive at times, while trying to open email or WhatsApp message from the locked screen. This is interesting and a little strange because game play is pretty smooth on the phone even while playing demanding games like Dead Trigger or Asphalt 8. Maybe the phone’s manufacturer needs to do some more tweaking of the Funtouch OS that sits on top of its Android 5.0 Lollipop base.

It scored 31834 in Antutu benchmark, which is better than HTC One, Xiaomi Redmi Note, and Xiaomi MI 2. In Vellamo, it scored 2032, which is better than Samsung Galaxy Nexus, but not as good as the Lenovo A7000, LGE Nexus 5, OnePlus One. Quadrant performance is also pretty good at 11,194, which is again higher than HTC One X, Asus Transformer Prime, and Motorola Atrix.

Battery backup of Vivo X5Pro is pretty good, with a 2450 mAh non-removable battery that easily lasts a full day with data services enabled, app downloads, phone calls, WhatsApp chats, Gmail, etc. We played a full screen video over WiFi at maximum brightness and volume with all notifications and auto-sync turned off, and the phone lasted between 6 to 8 hours. Its charger is slightly bulky though, and it would have been nice if it had an LED indicator to indicate that it is plugged in and working.

The phone comes with a 13 MP rear camera with flash, and 8 MP front camera. Picture quality is average, but photos can be taken rapidly as its auto-focus is quite fast. The smartphone supports Beauty  Mode that really improves Selfie quality.
