After purportedly leaking the teaser on social networking site X, Rockstar Games eventually unveiled the Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer on Tuesday, many hours ahead of schedule. As was to be expected, the trailer swiftly gained popularity on YouTube, receiving over 11 million views in the two hours after it was uploaded to the official Rockstar Games channel.

Many of the rumors that have been circulating about the open-world game GTA 6 are confirmed by the clip, and Rockstar Games later released a press statement stating that the game would launch in 2025 for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and Series S.

While Rockstar Games confirmed that a trailer for the upcoming game had indeed leaked, he said on X: “Our trailer leaked, so check out the real thing on YouTube. Behind the trailer son is a GTA 6 gameplay video circulating on TikTok, which gave a glimpse of the expected gameplay and the map of the upcoming game and created excitement in the gaming community.

The GTA 6 trailer introduces the series and the first female protagonist, Lucia, who is seen in prison at the beginning of the trailer. Later in the video, Lucia and her boyfriend are seen pulling off a Bonnie and Clyde-style heist in Vice City.

Rockstar Games said in a statement about GTA 6: "Grand Theft Auto VI heads to the Kingdom of Leonidas, home to Vice City and the neon-lined streets beyond, in the biggest and most immersive evolution of the Grand Theft Auto series yet.

Rockstar Games and Parent company Take-Two Interactive previously said it expects the game to generate $8 billion in net bookings by 2025, Bloomberg reported. In particular, the Grand Theft Auto series, which began in 1997, has sold more than 400 million copies to date, and the latest iteration of the series was released in 2013. There is more than a decade between GTA 5 and GTA 6 left the game and a loyal fan base eagerly awaits a new game.

According to data cited by CNBC, GTA 5 is the second best-selling video game of all time, with more than 190 million copies sold worldwide, behind only Microsoft and Minecraft's Minecraft, which sold more than 300 million copies.
