We Indians are great at that. We converted the 1991 financial crisis into Liberalization and built modern India. The Y2K crisis, which may have brought the computers of the world to a halt, was saved by Indian coders. That led to the birth of the IT services industry and India becoming a tech power.

In the 2000s African AIDS crisis, the Indian healthcare industry stepped up giving affordable medicines and we became the pharmacy of the developing world.

Now as a result of the Covid crisis these very two industries, IT and healthcare, have got together to unleash a HealthTech revolution which will transform India in the 2020s.

Before the Covid crisis, the Indian healthcare system was in shambles and totally caught off guard. However the medical fraternity stood up admirably and saved the day. With the latest advances in technology, we can hope for much better and be prepared for the next pandemic, should another one come.

Instead of Universal Healthcare, we can now aim for Universal HealthTechCare as tech has always been the great leveller. The smartphone is in the hands of every Indian. Broadband, data and access has reached the last mile. Digital India schemes are available for one and all.

Indian hospitals are being upgraded, healthtech startups are delivering the goods and Big Tech is into health solutions. Now it is time for the Indian government to develop a smart healthcare system with smart government hospitals and clinics and a smart digital online health system. All indications are this will finally happen.

PCQuest will be covering this transformation continuously through our magazine, online campaigns, webinars and virtual events. This is part of our PCQ Emerging Tech series and we will promote technologies like AgriTech, EVTech, DroneTech etc. We have also entered our 35th year and will be at the forefront of all tech changes to continue getting you the views of the who’s who of the tech industry during this period while looking at timelines of tech transformation.
