AiO PCs have a lot of advantages, but one area of concern for most users is the challenges in upgrading their graphics. While modern AiO PCs give you the flexibility of upgrading graphics, but doing so in previous-generation models can be a tricky affair. Here we discuss the possibilities.

To check the upgrade options, you need to first physically open your AIO and look inside to see if the GPU is removable. If it is, then it would be fixed in a slot and tightened with a fixture or screws. If that is the case, you can remove your GPU by removing the screw or fixture.

Every manufacturer, especially renowned ones such as Dell, HP, Lenovo, etc. design the motherboard and other parts depending upon their compactness. Before you plan to upgrade, you need to find out the right GPU that can fit in. Also, there are different types of GPUs designed for specific usage, real-time 3D graphics or other mass calculations. So keep your requirement in mind while purchasing a new GPU.

But you need a specific graphics card. You can’t simply put any GPU in an AIO. That is possible with desktops only as they come with a regular PCI-E slot that can hold any GPU. While with All in One PCs, you need to find the right match.

As the name suggests, it can easily be connected to your laptop or AIO using a Thunderbolt port. The eGPU comes with different configurations, so while buying one, you need to check the compatibility with your AIO.

The compatibility depends on the following key factors:

PSU max power: The eGPU would require a lot of power to accelerate the graphics. The power requirement can run anywhere from less than 100W up to 650W.

Compatibility: Ensure connection compatibility of your AIO with eGPU. The port eGPU should be compatible with your PC’s port for connection. It is important to make sure you will get the best graphics.

GPU compatibility: Some eGPU docks come included with graphics card while some with GPU, giving you the flexibility to choose depending upon your requirements.
