The New Year is here, and with it the winners of the Steam Awards 2019. Valve’s Steam Awards this year are in their fourth iteration, and the voting for nominees started with the Steam Autumn Sales. With the advent of Steam’s Winer sale 2019, the nominees were announced and the users could vote for the awards winners.
This year there were 8 categories, including one for The Best Game You Suck At. That award was bagged by Mortal Kombat 11, surprisingly beating Mordhau and Code Vein. The winner for The Game of the Year was given to Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. It had to beat out competitors like Resident Evil 5 and Devil May Cry 5. It wasn’t surprising, since it was one the most popular game on Steam this year and also won the Game of The Year Category on The Game Awards. The Labour of Love award, which honors ongoing games (mostly online multiplayer games) was taken by GTA V, yet again. GTA Online is one of the most popular and exciting multiplayer experiences right now. The immensely popular game Beat Saber, won the VR Game of the Year Award, which wasn’t surprising at all seeing that its only real competition was Blade and Sorcery.
The most surprising game on the list is Day Z, which won the award for Better With Friends, despite a lot of unfavorable reviews upon leaving Early Access. Here are all the winners of the Steam Awards 2019:
- Game of the Year: Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
- VR Game of the Year: Beat Saber

- Better With Friends: DayZ
- Most Innovative Gameplay: My Friend Pedro
